Send your thoughts, suggestions, and questions to us at editor@ungrind.org. We do read every email we receive. However, due to time constraints we are unable to reply to it all.
Thank you for your interest in writing for Ungrind. We publish one article per week and follow a theme list. We're currently accepting pitches for the following months:
- January: Hope
- February: Courage
- March: Hindsight
Our webzine is interested in non-fiction, first-person narrative articles that deal with every day issues women face in areas including spiritual growth, friendship, marriage, motherhood, career, finances, culture, and suffering. We also accept book reviews, as well as interviews with women who are making a difference in the lives of those around them. Please do not submit recipes, poetry, fiction, decorating tips, or devotional articles.
Make sure you've read several of our articles and know our audience. Any Christian women in the 20- to 30-something age range needs to be able to read your article and understand it without having to learn specific denominational jargon. Because articles should be written from a biblical perspective, we do encourage the inclusion of Scripture passages. However, be careful not to overdo it.
The following guidelines will help you reflect our tone and style:
- Use stories and illustrations to offer readers a "living example" of your article's main point. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable. The more honest you are, the better others will be able to relate.
- Reflect a Judeo-Christian worldview.
- Include sources for facts, research, or quotes you include in the article.
- Write in first person. Do not speak to the readers using "you" or "we." Very rarely do we publish articles that include second person.
Please send a query first to editor@ungrind.org. We will not read unsolicited manuscripts. Allow 2-4 weeks for a response. Queries should include the article title, summary, purpose, word count, your writing qualifications, a link to your blog if you have one (so we can get a taste of your writing style), and your contact information. The query should be included in the body of the email, not in an attached file. We will not open an attached file unless we've requested it.
If we like your query and ask to see the article, it should range between 1000-1400 words.
All writing is voluntary. We do not offer compensation. If your submission is accepted for publication, we reserve the right to make edits and changes to it. Additionally, we will have exclusive rights to your article for 60 days after it's posted on Ungrind. Following the 60 days, we will have non-exclusive rights to the article, and it will remain in our archives.
